5 Tips For Embracing Uncertainty In Business
Duncan and I are just a few short months away from welcoming our first baby into the world. And while we are both so excited, I have to admit I’m starting to feel the nerves creep in!
I guess I’m afraid of the unknown, and how hard it is to plan and forecast for the months ahead amongst all that uncertainty.
Maybe you can relate? With the current state of the world, there has been a lot of anxiety for business owners.
Are you worried about how your business can continue to have a healthy income?
If you should be implementing changes to ensure it survives?
So, I wanted to share with you my 5 tips for embracing uncertainty in business:
1. ACCEPT YOUR REALITY
Let me share a great book that has helped me in both my business and personal life… Jim Collins’ ‘Good To Great’.
To summarise; after tracking a series of companies that celebrated outstanding financial results over a fifteen-year period, it was found they all approached every crisis with:
- a stoic acceptance of the brutal facts of reality
and,
- un unwavering faith in the end game.
By accepting the reality that faces you, you can focus on moving forward. Nobody ever succeeded by digging their head in the sand!
2. RETAIN YOUR FAITH
Having complete trust and confidence in yourself and your business will help you tackle obstacles you face and eliminate feelings of stress, anxiety and fear.
3. INVOLVE MORE PEOPLE
Remember, you don’t have to do it alone!
Involving trusted people in the process will give you both a shoulder to lean on and an ear to talk to. They can provide expert advice and knowledge that will help you in moments of uncertainty.
4. REPLACE UNCERTAINTY WITH CURIOSITY
As humans, we can sometimes shy away from the unknown, but it can actually be a great opportunity to grow.
When you catch yourself avoiding uncertainty, replace that with a curiosity to learn and you may just find you thrive!
5. REMEMBER YOUR WHY
Remember why you started your business, and refer back to that why as you move through any difficulties that may arise. It’s what will continue to drive you forward!
What are ways you tackle uncertainty? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
Love,
Steph
